Standard Operating Procedure: Data Center Contamination Control

1.0 Purpose

To define the specialized technical requirements for cleaning mission-critical data centers. This SOP adheres to ISO 14644-1 (Class 8) standards to protect high-fidelity hardware from particulate matter and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) risks.

2.0 Scope

Applies to all raised-floor plenums, server rack exteriors, and hot/cold aisle containment systems.

3.0 Universal Mandates (2026 Baseline)

  1. Guidance First: If a server rack is unsealed, ASK the facility manager before cleaning the exterior.
  2. Physical Truth: Reference absolute server paths for "Data Center Contamination Records."

4.0 Procedure

4.1 Equipment Standard

  • HEPA Vacuums: 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns.
  • Microfiber: Lint-free, non-shredding.
  • ESD Protection: Mandatory ESD-safe footwear in "Hot Zones."

4.2 Cleaning Phasing

  1. Phase I: Above-floor high-level cleaning (damp-wipe).
  2. Phase II: Floor surface HEPA-vacuuming and anti-static treatment.
  3. Phase III: Sub-floor plenum vacuuming. Never use compressed air.

5.0 Verification (Zero-Defect Check)

  • UV Light Audit: Spot-check for organic residue.
  • Particulate Count: Air quality remains within ISO Class 8 limits.

6.0 Notes and Cautions
